In the early 19^th century, mail transport was provided by this type of horse-drawn carriage: letters and small parcels were placed at the rear of the vehicle while three people could sit in front of the cabriolet. Throughout the century, stagecoaches capable of carrying more passengers gradually replaced the mail coaches.
